Self-awareness is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from the environment and other individuals. It is not to be confused with consciousness in the sense of qualia. While consciousness is being aware of one’s environment and body and lifestyle, self-awareness is the recognition of that awareness.
Five Core Aspects of Self-Awareness
After going through the diagnostic surveys for emotional intelligence assessment, I have a good indication of the level of EQ I fall under. I thought the score is encouraging. I personally feel that I should continue to improve on the ability to respond appropriately to emotional ques. “Emotional intelligence was four times more important than IQ” in determining who had achieved in their career. EQ has been found to be an important predictor of managerial success.
Attitudes toward change.
The world changes dramatically these days, it’s common for managers to operate in a more complex environment, overload with more information. This is a key prerequisite to keep up with revolution. This aspect should be applied at all working levels be it management, ground floor workers, etc
The cognitive assessment indicates that I had a higher weightage for creating and planning style. The results are very true and I thought I should continue to harness these two good attributes. My current job requires a substantial amount of planning and creativity which will help me to strengthen this area.
Values are the most enduring characteristics for myself. It sets a key foundation as they are a basis for crucial decisions and life directions. In today business world, cultural value is a key area that has to be emphasized and adopt by managers. A perfect grasp of values will improve corporate culture, productivity and satisfaction at workplace.
I’ll continue to move out of comfort zone and I agree to the “Big Five” personality (extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness. These will help me to develop a positive self-regard, helping me to function better at work, relationships and in life.
